From 13 to 31 August 2021, 600 peer educators from the ten regions of Cameroon will be deployed on the ground for the 19th edition of the AIDS-Free Holidays campaign.
The official launch ceremony took place this Friday, 13 August 2021 at the Seat of AFRICAN SYNERGY, under the chairmanship of Mr. MOUNOUNA FOUTSOU, Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, in the presence of the Executive Secretary of the Pan-African NGO, representatives of international organizations, civil society actors and hundreds of young people.
All were present to reaffirm their adhesion and their support to this initiative of Her Excellency Madam Chantal BIYA, First Lady of Cameroon, UNAIDS Special Ambassador.
The ceremony, rich in sounds and colour, gave the various speakers the opportunity to call on young people to take more responsibility and to salute the relevance of this sensitization campaign in the response to HIV/AIDS among young people.
A vibrant tribute was paid to the Founding President of AFRICAN SYNERGY, Madam Chantal BIYA, for her commitment and determination to work alongside public authorities and the international community, for two decades, to eradicate HIV/AIDS, especially among young people.
The 2021 edition of « AIDS-Free Holidays« , like last year, is combined with sensitization against Covid-19, hence the theme « HIV or Covid-19, you can protect yourself, stay Alive ».
As a prelude to the campaign, a training session for peer educators took place on Thursday 12 August 2021 at the Cameroon Red Cross Headquarters. Peer educators received lessons on HIV, AIDS, STIs, Covid-19 and digital communication.
